Treasures of Algoma
May 1 - November 29, 2025
In celebration of the Art Gallery of Algoma’s 50th Anniversary, this segment of the collection exhibition showcases artworks that depict Algoma and Sault Ste. Marie.
From delicate 19th-century watercolours by William Armstrong to contemporary works by artists such as John Hartman and Rosalie Favell, this exhibition highlights how Algoma continues to inspire generations of artists. The majority of the pieces are landscapes, capturing the region's natural beauty. A notable exception is a series of six black-and-white photographic portraits by Rosalie Favell. These portraits, featuring Indigenous women from Algoma who have contributed to the arts, are part of her larger series Facing the Camera.
Some of the featured artists are from Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma, while others were inspired by the region during their travels and visits.
