Art Is All Around Us
Kevin Sonmor (1959 | Canadian)
Born in Lacombe, Alberta, in 1959, Kevin Sonmor is a Canadian artist who is known for painting still life, equestrian, and marine scenes. As a well-educated student of art, Sonmor brings together contemporary abstract aesthetics with the traditions of Northern European styles. His rich colours and textures draw the viewer into his visions of reality. “Kevin Sonmor's paintings are charged with unsettling tensions between ambiguity and meaning, historic traditions and the contemporary condition, between nature and culture, tragedy and possibility, process and finished product," said David Liss, the Artistic Director and Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. In 1998, the University of Waterloo organized an exhibition of Sonmor's work which toured the Art Gallery of Algoma, and the Art Gallery of Sudbury. His work is exhibited in public and private galleries across North America and Europe.
