Ontario Culture Days: Algoma Reimagined

Picture
The Art Gallery of Algoma hosted Algoma Reimagined - a public outdoor event on September 24 and 25 from 10 AM - 3 PM.

Algoma Reimagined provided an opportunity for general public to be part of a community painting event creating a new vision of the Algoma landscape. The Algoma landscape was and continues to be an inspiration for many artists in the past and today including well-known Group of Seven.

Our creative and knowledgeable staff was there to facilitate collaborative murals which were displayed on the outside wall of the Gallery.
All health and safety measures were in place during the event.

Artist's Talk: Wrapped in Culture

November 12, 2020 at 3:00PM EST
The Art Gallery of Algoma (AGA) presents a virtual Artists’ Talk about the exhibition Wrapped in Culture currently on display at the AGA.
The Art Gallery of Algoma and the artists acknowledge that they have met on Anishnaabeg territory inhabited by them since time immemorial. In particular, we acknowledge that we were in Robinson-Huron Treaty territory and the land on which we have gathered is the traditional land of the Anishnaabeg.

This exhibition was organized and toured by the Ottawa Art Gallery. It was a collaborative project of ten Indigenous artists from Canada and Australia. Rosalie Favell, the Lead Artist for this project, Barry Ace and Adrian Stimson discussed the project and significance of telling the stories about two Indigenous cultures.
