Art Is All Around Us
John Howlin (1941-2006 | Canadian)
Howlin is an England born post-war contemporary artist who migrated to Canada in 1969. Howlin’s first major exhibition of 4 Young Artists in 1963 was a huge success, causing enough of a stir to earn itself a full colour spread in British VOGUE magazine, referring to the artists involved as “The Impact Makers.” The artists became extremely influential, influencing the British art scene to become more accepting of vivid pure colours, abstraction and fields of colour. Howlin’s work can be seen in the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), the TATE Museum as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the University of Oregon USA.
