AGA Summer Art Classes

​The Art Gallery of Algoma is excited to offer Summer Art Classes in person this year!

As always, we are offering morning classes for ages 5-9 and afternoon classes for ages 10+. Classes will run weekly beginning July 4th through August 19th, 2022. Morning classes are from 9:30am-12:00pm, and afternoon classes are from 1:30pm-4:00pm. Morning and afternoon classes differ primarily in skill level, and age divisions are somewhat flexible based on the skill level of participants.

One week of classes is $110 for AGA Members and $125 for the general public. Please note that classes in the week of August 2-5 will be a shortened week, priced at $88 for AGA Members and $100 for the general public.

Class Details

July 4-8, 2022 - Morning Class: Algoma Landscape, 9:30-12:00pm
Art inspired by the famous Group of Seven landscapes currently on display at the AGA. Students will use graphite, watercolors, acrylics and paper to create their favorite places in Algoma.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
July 4-8, 2022 - Afternoon Class: Inspired by the Group of Seven, 1:30pm-4:00pm
Students will paint in the style of the Group of Seven outside as the Group did. They will explore perspective and document scenery around them. Current exhibitions will be used as inspiration to create art in the spirit of the Group of Seven.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
July 11-15, 2022 - Morning Class: Bees and Butterflies are Buzzing, 9:30am-12:00pm
Explore the pollinators and create art depicting bees, butterflies, and flowers. Students will do rock painting, sculptures made of paper, drawing, painting and cutting bees, butterflies, and flowers.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
July 11-15, 2022 - Afternoon Class: Pollinators, 1:30pm-4:00pm
Flower gardens and pollinators will be depicted in various art forms using several techniques such as painting, collage, and sculpting.

July 18-22, 2022 - Morning Class: Celebrate Summer, 9:30am-12:00pm
Flowers are in full bloom, it's vacation season, fruits and vegetables are fresh and all of this is an inspiration for students to explore and depict using various techniques.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
July 18-22, 2022 - Afternoon Class: Personal Touch, 1:30pm-4:00pm
Students will paint clay pots and different vessels for everyday use. They will use different art styles from high realism to abstraction learning about the use of colour and shapes to create different effects on objects of their choice.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
July 25-29, 2022 - Morning Class: Animal Kingdom, 9:30am-12:00pm
This is a perfect week to tell us about animals you know or animals that you would like to care for. Students will be surrounded by animals created using many different mediums.

July 25-29, 2022 - Afternoon Class: Flora and Fauna, 1:30pm-4:00pm
Nature is a constant inspiration for artists. Art from the AGA's permanent collection will be explored to create art about birds, other animals, and nature in different mediums. The result will be a mixed media group project which will be on display at the AGA Ken Danby Art Studio for the summer.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
August 2-5, 2022 - Morning Class: Collage, 9:30am-12:00pm
Students will use collage as a technique to create artwork exploring basic elements of design. Realistic and abstract collage will be explored.

Price: $88 for AGA Members or $100 for the general public.
August 2-5, 2022 - Afternoon Class: Murals - Concepts and Design, 1:30pm-4:00pm
Students will learn how to design their mural working with elements and principles of design. Create your own comic book with characters and superpowers of your choice.

Price: $88 for AGA Members or $100 for the general public.
August 8-12, 2022 - Morning Class: Cartoons and Animation, 9:30am-12:00pm
Our very popular class where students use simple elements of animation and creating of storyboards will tell an animated story of their own. Drawing, painting, and sketching will be learned.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
August 8-12, 2022 - Afternoon Class: Superheroes, 1:30pm-4:00pm
Create your own superhero and give it a special power of your choice! Use your superheroes and favourite cartoon or movies to get inspired.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
August 15-19, 2022 - Morning Class: The World of Disney, 9:30am-12:00pm
Disney movies and heroes are timeless. Create a storyboard using Disney as your inspiration to make your own fantasy or fairy-tale story.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.
August 15-19, 2022 - Afternoon Class: Surrealism, 1:30pm-4:00pm
Explore the art of Surrealism to create a mural from your fantasy! Art is allowing for imagination beyond the obvious so this class will alow you to create an artwork that is unique and will also teach you about this famous art style and artists who used it.

Price: $110 for AGA Members or $125 for the general public.

Registration, Cancellation, and Refund Policy:

  • Payment is due with registration
  • Registration can be switched for another scheduled class if notification is given 7 days prior to the start of the class initially registered for
  • Refunds will be provided if AGA needs to cancel the class for any reason
  • Cancellation will be subject to a $25.00 charge if the class is cancelled less than two weeks prior to the class start date
